DTI
The DTI (Diploma of Translation and Interpretation) Program is designed to provide in-depth knowledge and introduce skills for bilingual individuals to explore the possibility of pursuing a professional career as a translator and/or interpreter. Students will work through an intensive eight weeks of translation, interpretation, and presentations to enhance their bilingual skills as well as creating a stronger basis for English. Graduates of the course will have the necessary skills to begin their career in the interpretation and translation field as they will be able to approach English in a new perspective. Valuable experiences earned from the DTI program will become a great asset for one to have in any career.

DTI 101 Introduction to Translation
This course aims to give the student awareness about the intricacies of the translation process and criteria for evaluation of translations. It focuses on business writing.
DTI 102 Introduction to Interpretation
This course is designed to introduce principles and the current issues involved in interpretation. Theoretical principles, ethics, practical techniques, and current issues surrounding the practice and profession for interpretation situations are discussed.
DTI 103 Sight Translation
This course will focus on the ability of students to translate orally, information from a written text. There will be an emphasis on improving linguistic and communicative (public speaking) techniques. Students’ grades will be heavily weighed on their participation. Students perform sight translations of various written materials in class.
DTI 104 Consecutive Interpretation
Students will learn from various intensive exercises associated with consecutive interpreting, with a focus on listening, note-taking, and short-term memory, organization and logic. Comprehensive note-taking and note-reading in a bilingual context, memory tools and retention techniques are taught. The emphasis is on developing basic skills to generate equivalent messages between the aural target language and English.
DTI 105 Popular Culture and Media Analysis
This course aims to familiarize students with different aspects of North American culture through media analysis and the study of idiomatic expressions and slang.
DTI 109 Vocabulary Acquisition
This course focuses on lexical skill building. The languages lab as well as classroom work will be utilized to intensely train students with terminology studies and glossary building.
DTI 120 Enhancing English Communication
Improves students’ overall English skill levels including reading comprehension, listening, grammar, writing, and speaking through various exercises.
